A TRIO of Stamford boxers have been in the ring as the season winds towards its end.

Jack Spires, Jack Edwards-Race and Alec Murphy have all produced outstanding displays in the past few weeks with wins for Murphy and Spires.

Murphy has fought twice, winning an explosive three-rounder against Derby’s Jack Wright but then coming off second best for the first time, against the experienced George Reynolds from Solihull ABC.

After just eight weeks at the gym Murphy now boasts an impressive three wins and one loss.

Stamford ABC’s youngest boxer, Edwards-Race showed great technical ability but was beaten by Cory Gilks of Tamworth.

Stamford’s coaches said: “With every bout, Jack’s confidence is growing and he is ticking over in training in preparation for the new season.”

Senior boxer, Spires had a score to settle with Manton ABC’s Alex Hopkins when they fought at Peterborough.

Hopkins got the better of Spires last time the pair met but Spires’ training in the gym paid off with a performance of strong combinations that pushed his opponent back and Hopkins was unable to turn it around.

Training sessions continue each week at Stamford ABC.
