The Penday Pairs Trophy as Rutland County Golf Club was a triumph for Suzanne and Oliver Huxley.
The mother and son combo claimed the title with 69 points, ahead of Andy Vernon and Imogen Huxley in second spot.
The runners-up took second spot on countback ahead of Di Barnett and Kevin Moxham, and Deggie Palmer and Jackie Cole all on 61 points.
County’s B team found healthy form with a 5-1 victory over visiting Thorney Lakes.
Mike Powell and Pete Siciliano won 4&3, Dave Waddell and Martyn Gatehouse won 1 up, Phil Drury finally managed a 4&3 win with partner Craig Allan, Andy Vernon and Bob Ambrose won 3&1, Kev Moxham and Chris Palmer won 4&3. Chris Bower and Dave Rippin offered some solace to Thorney as they went down on the final hole.
l Gordon Young produced his annual masterclass with a stunning 85-19-66 in the Monthly Medal to edge out Terry Loomes by one shot.
Young is delighted with his two shot handicap reduction and now plays off 17. Loomes (87-20-67) was comfortably ahead of third placed Peter Stokes on 85-14-71.
In Division 2, Mike Pell destroyed the field with 93-27-66. Nick Lewis was second but well back on net 71. Rip Kirby was third with net 72.
l The winning team in the 123 competition with 72 points were Ralph Baker, Joe Smith and Nick Lewis.
In the Singles Knockout, Mike Pell beat Gerry Webb 3&1 Dave Wilson (John Killin) beat John Mason/Arthur Dethick on the 19th hole.
