Narrow win saves unbeaten run

OAKHAM scraped a narrow win to extend their unbeaten run to six matches, beating Birstall by one point.

In an exciting encounter played in thundery conditions, Oakham’s Thursday team won on three of the five rinks with pride of place going to the rink skipped by Ron Smurthwaite which won by 11 shots.

Results: Bob Spence, Dave Thorne, Bob Swarbrick and Ron Smurthwaite won 21-10; Rod Stanley, Ray Stace, Gail Robertson and Bob Hammond won 19-13; David Morgan, Brian Garner, John Moore and Chris Wallis won 21-17; Les Wright, Peter Ferry, Ray Gregory and Alan Jones lost 13-23; Lin Walters, Robin Bickers, Nigel Trigg and Barrie Payne lost 10-20.

Oakham Ladies 92 Melton Town 29

OAKHAM Ladies recorded their biggest win of the season so far with a shot difference of 63 at home against Melton Town Ladies.

Results: Jean Mason, Pam Stanley, Anne Preston-Bambridge and Val Crowder won 35-11; Eileen Wright, Maureen Walters, Joan Haines and Jenny Bateman won 29- 9; Hazel Jeffrey, Ros Carter, Janet Wright and Beryl Birch won 28-9.

Oakham 82 Evington 67

OAKHAM’s Saturday team travelled to Evington and after a match that was nip and tuck for most of the afternoon.

Oakham were eventually victorious, winning on all four rinks, with the rink skipped by Chris Wallis leading the way.
