Stamford and Rutland Table Tennis League

RIVALS MTTG A and Yaxley BL share identical records at the top of Division 1 of the Stamford and Rutland Table Tennis League.

MTTG A earned a 7-3 win against Stamford School, with Dave Needham saving match points against Denise Jacobi and escaping a perilous position against Leigh Ware to remain unbeaten. Chris Weston played with customary speed to win three times.

However, Yaxley trumped their rivals with two victories. A 7-3 win at Bourne A was followed by a 10-0 drubbing of MTTG B.

Shaun Murray and Daniel Fielding proved unbeatable in both fixtures, while Chris Pickard added three points in the second match. Already, it would seem that the title will be decided, once again, by the fixtures between these two sides.

However, Hampton TTC remain in their shadows, and three wins in the last fortnight have catapulted them up to third.

Two 10-0 results, against Bourne B and MTTG B give ominous warning of their potential, and the points dropped in the 8-2 result at Stamford Free Church were through concession.

Richard Henry led Stamford School to a 6-4 victory against Bourne A. He won all three of his matches, while Leigh Ware contributed two points.

The school led 5-0 at one point but Mike Willis hit form to win twice, before contributing to the doubles point, as the visitors fought back.

l Uffington A continue to lead the way in Division 2.

Matt Durrands and the Martyns Dennis and Willgress all enjoyed unbeaten evenings in a 10-0 win against Tallington B, while Matt continued his strong season with another three wins against Tallington A.

Martyn Dennis won twice more, while Paul Ramm secured a brace for the villagers in this battle of the top two.

Tallington A suffered a second defeat at the bats of Braunston B. Paul again won twice, but Vic Hoffman won thrice for Braunston; with Dave Smart chipping in with two wins.

Braunston remain one of the two remaining unbeaten teams in the division.

Bourne C is the other team, and they enjoyed a 9-1 win over their E team. Kevin Day and Harry Jackson each won three times, and Ziggy Poberezniuk twice in the comprehensive victory.

Nomads move up to third with two further wins. Nick Goodman and Nick McDowell remained unbeaten in the 8-2 win against Bourne E and the 9-1 win at Tallington B. Jon Ward also won twice in the latter match.

The final match also ended in a clear win, with Bourne D beating Uffington B 9-1. Chris Holland and Kevin Greenfield enjoyed unbeaten evenings, while Leanne Hills won twice.
