Rival’s loss boosts Oaks’ play-off hopes

Oakham RFC have been handed a psychological boost ahead of Saturday’s match against Dronfield.

Dronfield still have one game in hand of the The Oaks but, while second-placed Oakham had a week off, they missed a great chance to close the gap behind the Rutlanders last weekend.

Their 23-15 defeat at Bakewell means they must now beat Oakham on Saturday to realistically keep their own play-off hopes alive.

Second-placed Oakham meanwhile have the luxury of a six point cushion ahead of the chasing pack. Defeat would make it more of a battle to seal the play-off place but not dent their hopes terminally.

Saturday’s match at the Showground kicks off at 3pm.
