THURLBY racer Ryan Hutchinson has ended his first British 4X series season with a stunning second place in the overall standings.
The 14-year-old, who also took runners-up in the national championships, completed his season with a superb final weekend at Afan in South Wales where he won all three of his qualifying races for a place in the final where the battle was between the Bourne Academy boy and Christian Cawthorn for second in the series.
Ryan sprung from the gate quickly and was leading until he slipped at the fourth corner But after jumping back on his bike he finished a comfortable third, enough for second in the series.
On Sunday, Ryan entered his first Euro rookie race, for riders aged 13 to 17. Again he won all three qualifiers and flew out of the start gate in the final, dominating throughout to cruise over the finish line in first place.
Ryan is now back in training for the Eastern region BMX race in October which will be held in Royston, and he has been boosted by the backing of his first sponsor, Paul Bonham of Terry Wright Cycles in Market Deeping.
Bonham has followed Ryan’s progress in BMX and the larger 4X competitions and has been impressed by the teenager’s progress.
