STAMFORD School trio of Richard Henry, Denise Jacobi and Andrew Walton enjoyed a successful week by reaching the finals of both the Ketco Plate and President’s Cup competitions.
However, their victory in the Plate semi-final against Uffington CC B was marred by an injury to Uffington’s Martyn Dennis. He was unable to continue following his first match, and, with Martyn Willgress winning twice for the cricketers, the match would have been much closer.
The following evening, the school travelled to Division 1 champions Yaxley British Legion for the President’s Cup semi-final.
Denise and Richard each won twice, while Andrew secured the fifth and deciding point in a 5-3 win. With the handicaps, matches were close, with Richard winning from four match points down against John Bloomfield in one.
The school will play Bourne A in the final of the President’s Cup, while Yaxley will be seeking revenge in the final of the Ketco Plate.
The final of the Division 1 Plate competition will be between Bourne B and Stamford Free Church.
Mathematically, Braunston B can still win the Division 2 title, but MTTG B require just two points from their remaining match. This follows their 9-1 victory over Bourne E, with Andy Johnson and Nicki Farrell winning thrice and Emily Turner twice.
Tallington A completed their fixtures with a 7-3 win over Nomads, who have enjoyed a promising first season in the league. Paul Ramm and Richard Allen remained unbeaten for the villagers who were close to Division 2 honours this year.
