Arnie Shelton took fourth in class (sixth overall) on his debut at Thruxton on Sunday.
Racing in blustery conditions the E3Motorsport rider from Haconby matched his expectations ahead of courses where he expects to fare better.
Shelton said: “It was a tough weekend but I did was well as we expected as I was trying to learn the circuit.
“This was always going to be one of the toughest rides of the year so I am reasonably happy - but I know we can do better.”
His 12th place in Saturday’s qualifying left him on the third row of the grid but after a good start he began to move up through the field. However, as at Brands Hatch a week earlier, the Haconby racer couldn’t tag along with the front trio and fourth was his highest position.
Oulton Park, Knockhill and Snetterton host the next three rounds and Shelton expects to be among the front-runners at all three tracks. He said: “I am looking forward to these technical tracks. These will all suit me better.”
Shelton thanked Phillip and Joy Sherwin, who covered the costs of his tyres at Thruxton. The next raced on May 6.
