WANSFORD racer Alexander Sims has joined the world famous McLaren GT customer team line-up for 2012.
Former Stamford schoolboy, Sims, who won the 2008 McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award, will be available to compete for customer teams that race the new MP4-12C GT3 during the 2012 season.
The MP4-12C GT3 is a unique concept in sportscar racing. It features McLaren’s one-piece moulded carbon MonoCell chassis and technology normally reserved for Formula 1 race cars and has been specified and developed by a team comprising senior personnel from McLaren Racing.
Sims, whose racing experience includes two years in Formula 3 Euroseries and a year in GP3, said: “I’m really looking forward to the forthcoming season with McLaren GT and the opportunity to race the MP4-12C GT3.
“I am delighted McLaren continue to support young drivers in their careers and I’m proud to be on the McLaren driver programme for 2012.
“It is a privilege to be joining a team of this enormous calibre and I am sure that 2012 will see us continuing to build on the success that McLaren GT had in 2011.”
