Stamford’s stars play key county role

Stamford and District League bowlers played key roles in helping Northants Federation’s Adams Trophy team to a flying start in the English Inter-County South Division with a 13-shot defeat of Huntingdonshire.

With a 117-164 victory at the tricky Peterborough and District green, Northants claimed 18 of the 22 points available thanks to four out of six winning rinks.

Jonathan Earl and Adam Warrington from Blackstones made outstanding debuts, coming from behind in the closing stages to steer their respective 2-bowl triples rinks to victory.

A late burst of scoring by Mike Ramsden (Empingham), Bob Warters (Ketton) and Paul Buckley (Barnack) cut their deficit to three to help the overall result and take added confidence into this week’s visit to North Essex when Bourne’s Nick Wilkie will replace Dolby.

Result: Paul Dalliday, John Hadley, Pete Brown lost 22-31; Sean Fenlon, Mick Linnell, Rod Maplethorpe won 33-18; Roger Stevens, Gavin Jinks, Lee Welsford won 33-30; Graham Agger, Joe Randall, Adam Warrington won 29-26; Howard Shipp, John Earl, Martin Dolby won 31-27; Mike Ramsden, Bob Warters, Paul Buckley lost 29-32.
