Stamford School Year 13 pupil Jamie Cameron has been selected for the Wales Basketball junior squad put together as a development side for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Since representing Wales in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) European Tournament last summer, Cameron has continued to dedicate himself to the sport, travelling to Wales once a month for training.
Cameron will now be making the four hour journey twice a month as he begins his training with the development team against the current senior side.
As captain of the Stamford School basketball team, Cameron has been integral in driving the team’s success.
The school side have only lost two games in the past four seasons and Jamie has been the top scorer for the last two years.
Stamford School basketball coach Garry Mitchell said: “Jamie has always given 100 per cent to basketball, from warm ups, drills, conditioned games to full games.
“Even in the final minutes of a hard training session, he never stops running and covering defensively as he pushes himself to the limit.
“Jamie has wanted to be a basketball player for many years and has worked extremely hard to achieve his high skill level.
“He now runs coaching sessions for the school team and the younger boys and is passing on his knowledge effectively.”
