Members of PACTRAC (Peterborough Area Combined Triathlon and Athletics Club) raced in the first round of the club’s annual mini-series races last Wednesday.
22nd May saw the first of this year’s 11 PACTRAC
The race began with a 400 yard swim at Oundle which was followed by a 10 mile cycle stage and 3.5mile run.
The novice race was postponed for two weeks due to freshly laid gravel on a length of the cycle stage. The more experienced riders took on an emended course which included Southwick Hill.
In last week’s race, Neil Tandy led the swimmers out in 4m31s, an entire minute ahead of second placed Richard Rollings.
Tandy then extended the gap with the fastest bike leg of the evening to lead by Jaap Flikweert, who was now second, by 2m09.
Paul Vernon tore through the field during the cycle and run stages to take second spot 48 seconds behind Tandy who clocked a personal best of 50.56.
Vernon’s 51m44 was also a pb with third and fourth-placed Sean Pooley and Jonathan Cox, who were slit by just one hundredth of a second, also setting pbs of 53.36 and 53.37 respectively.
The first lady racer to cross the line was Roz Giles in 12th out of 46 starters with a time of 58.51.
The Novice Mini-Series riders should meet at Oundle pool on June 12 for their first round. No advance notice is necessary to compete.
