Craig Taylor, of Haconby, won his first racing trophy at Cadwell Park on Sunday.
The 27-year-old began racing last year but this outing - his tenth competitive race - was his debut at the track nick-named “the Mini-Nürburgring”.
Racing a classic MGB Roadster FIA from 1965, which he has refurbished, Taylor gained time in every qualifying lap to take sixth place on the grid.
He held his position throughout the early laps and after a demanding fight finished fifth, second in class.
After receiving his runners-up trophy he said the course was tough but added: “I definitely love it.”
Taylor is backed by his employers Padgett Motor Engineers in Spanby.
