Top racing tipster Kevan Minter, known as The Colonel, gives Mercury readers his top tips for the week ahead. Kevan, who lives in Stamford, is trackside most days and is regularly on television.

Meddling, in the 2.30 at Yarmouth on Friday, has leading claims.

Sir Michael Stoute’s 3-year-old is the subject of good gallop reports from HQ.

Ruler Of The World, trained by Aiden O’Brien, is a red hot favourite for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh on Saturday.

The Epsom Derby winner who is unbeaten to date is reported in good form at Ballydoyle and is expected to win the Classic for Aiden a race which the trainer has won for the seventh year in succession.

The David Simcock trained Montaser is fancied to go close in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday.

Earlier this week, the trainer said: “He has improved since York and is in really good order.”

Jim Crowley will take the ride and he will love the fast ground and I expect him to go close.

l The highly-regarded Al Kazeem rewarded the patience of owner John Deer and trainer Roger Charlton by coming through to score by a neck in the Group One Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot last Wednesday.

Al Kazeem is now the clear 6/4 favourite for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes next month at Ascot.

The victory gave his jockey James Doyle a first Royal Ascot success and the jockey said: “We settled into a nice rhythm but Mukhadram got a couple of lengths on me turning in. I could see Paul (Hanagan) just getting away from me on the turn and had a bit of work to do. But you have to believe in your horse and I have done nothing but win on this fellow.”

“Al Kazeem digs deep and is such a hardy, tough horse. He loves to get in a battle and he showed what a good horse he is by quickening up.

“It’s magical, really - to get a Royal Ascot winner. This is what it is all about. All of those mornings, working hard, going to all of the evening meetings and all of the hard work that you put in.

“It is the best feeling in the world - you dream of Royal Ascot winners when you are growing up and it is amazing to have one.”
