THE Wakes took the Stamford Indoor Bowls Division One title despite a 6-16 defeat by the runners-up Alpha trio of Janet and John Gamble, with Don Crawley.
Third placed Maltesers John Turnham, Wally Lodge and Denis Winson beat relegated Motley Crew 17-10, and the win of the week went to the Tarrango team of June Brennan, Richard Horne and Alan Romaine, who inficted a 31-4 thrashing onto last seasons champions Canaries, consigning Canaries to relegation by moving above them in the league by one shot.
Division two saw the top team Pick’n Mix trio of Joan and John King and skip Jeanette Wynne beat Rods Mixers 15-9 to guarantee the title, though second placed Geriatrics Jim Haye, Gerry Corby and Terry Weaver inflicted a telling 20-3 beating onto Eagles, in the hope of a slip-up by the leaders.
Geriatrics gained promotion by this victory, leaving third placed Friends in Division Two, despite George Cameron, Betty Sims and Bob Oliver punishing Take Five by 27 shots to 3 in the seasons final league match.
Stamford Indoor Bowls club opens for winter bowling on Monday September 12.
