Toft Ladies’ League team were pitted against Elsham Ladies at Holme Hall Golf Club as the winners of the South and North divisions of the Lincs Division 1 respectively to determine the overall leading club.
Toft ladies knew they were facing a new and challenging contest which in the end turned into a tough and closely-fought match.
All four games went to the wire with each couple displaying real fortitude and their best skills.
League Captain Mairead Scott and her partner Lorraine Robinson faced two players with handicaps of five and six and after suffering several crucial lip-out putts, finished up losing 2 &1, a brave effort.
Alison Ravenhill and Dianne Clayton went oh so close, losing 1 down on the last hole.
Hopes rose with a fine win of 3&1 by Margaret Dair and Judith Childs which left Mary Stark and Lady Captain Sandra Wildmore to fight for a drawn or losing result.
The Toft pair went four down but steadfastly hung in to reach all square before finally losing one down.
Such nailbiting golf gave the Toft team a real boost despite losing the match 3-1 and Mairead said: “I am very proud of the whole team reaching this stage in the first place.”
