Tennis fever has hit the nation again as the world’s best compete for the greatest prize in tennis at Wimbledon.
Millions will tune in to watch Andy Murray defend his title but have you ever thought about getting out of the armchair and working those arm muscles?
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to return the left handed serve of a 6ft 7in former tennis professional with wins over Grand Slam winner Pat Rafter and other top tenners?
Are you a junior, casual or club player who’d like to pick up some tips from another former tennis professional with career wins over Henman, Rusedski, Korda, Gilbert and Gustavo Kuerten?
Now’s your chance to mix it with a team of ex-professional Davis Cup and Wimbledon players who are organising a Tennis Extravaganza programme at Oakham Tennis Club on Sunday, July 13.
And don’t worry, anyone taking part will be home in time to watch the world cup final.
The timing for the various activities is as follows: 10.30am coaching clinic on all four courts for up to 40 juniors aged 5 to 11. Fee payable £5 per junior.
From 11.30 am there will be a coaching clinic on all four courts for up to 20 juniors aged 12 upwards, at a cost £7.50 per junior.
At 12.30pm it will be the turn for adults with basic skills to get some expert coaching, £7.50 per person.
Advanced adults get their turn with the former pros at 2.30pm for £10 per person.
At 3.30am there will be exhibition matches, in which the tennis professionals will partner team players who represent the club in league tennis.
At about 4.20pm the tennis professionals will partner two raffle ticket winners in a short tie break game.
Finally at 4.30pm the big servers at the club can test their power against the speed gun in a serving competition, with prizes for fastest junior and adult.
The day will also feature a barbeque, and raffle.
Places in the coaching clinics are being offered to club members in the first instance, but are also available to the local community.
If you are interested in a place on one of the coaching clinics for yourself, or your son or daughter, apply quickly before places fill up.
Anyone who would like to take advantage of this rare opportunity to train with top professionals should visit www.oakhamltc.org.uk/ for an application form.
Print off and complete one entry form for each entrant, and send to Richard Wilson, c/o Oakham Tennis Club, The Vale, Oakham, Rutland LE15 6JQ.
Details of payment are on the entry form.
Alternatively, if you are paying by bank transfer, and are equipped to return your completed form electronically, email it to email@example.com.
Should the coaching clinics be fully subscribed by the time your entry form is received, or should the event be cancelled through bad weather, any associated fee shall be refunded, so please ensure that you complete all personal details, particularly a telephone number and email address.
Should people not be interested in the coaching clinics the club is still encouraging people to go down to spectate, treat themselves to something from the barbeque, try their luck with the raffle, or have a go at the Speed Gun Serving Challenge.
