US-bound Imogen Huxley retains title at Rutland County Golf Club Lady Captain’s Day

It was a very different Lady Captain’s Day that was hugely enjoyed by 25 ladies of Rutland County Golf Club on July 4, where American Independence was the theme of the whole day.

Winner of best decorated trolley was Karen Palmer.

Nearest pins winners were Liz Kunen, Amanda Riches, Imy Huxley.

Best on the front nine was Di Barnett, while best back nine was Joanne Cheshire.

Third place overall was Liz Kunen with 36 points.

​​Second place went to Pauline Beadle with 37 but the winner was Karen Collins on 41.

lThe annual 9-hole challenge match of Ladies vs the Seniors was played on Friday evening followed by supper. It was a nail biting finish with the Ladies claiming victory by one point.

lImogen Huxley from Rutland County retained her Junior County Championship Title at Birstall Golf Club on July 5. She has held the title for three years and shot a total of 151 over 36 holes. Imogen is due to take up golf scholarship at Alabama University in the USA in August. The club wishes her continued success in her golf and education.

Imogen, who plays off four, won last week’s medal with a 72, net 68 and a handicap reduction to three.

Second was Anne Shuttleworth with 94,- 23, net 71. Third was Anne Milsom with 89, -15, net 74.

l The Men’s July Medal was played in strong winds on Saturday, but unlike St Andrews, balls stayed on the greens. The winners showed their skills in coping with the conditions and comprised some very experienced players and the youthful Nathan Harper.

Division One was won by Mark Durno with 79 off of a 12 handicap, net 67.

Second was Ian Rice 80,-12, net 68, and third place went to Eric Cooper 78,-7, net 71.

Division Two was won by Nathan Harper with 79,-13, a net 66, behind John Goff in second 83, -16, net 67 and winner Rick Collins with 85, -16, net 69.

l The mixed team played away at Kettering on Sunday and achieved a rare 3-3 half.

Dave Rippin and Carole Westcott led the way and won 1 up. Paul Milsom and Anne Shuttleworth won 5 & 4.

Bob Ambrose and Anne Milsom won 3 & 2. Alan Shuttleworth and Margaret Rippin lost 4 & 3. Phil Drury and Jackie Cole lost 1 down.

Dave Waddell and Jenny Cobb lost 3 & 2.
