A trio of Bourne Wheelers have qualified for the national finals of the GHS 10 School Championships after setting a blistering pace on Tuesday.
Eight Wheelers were fighting for places in the Lincolnshire contingent as a field of 22 raced a 10-mile course at Greatford in the best conditions for time trials this year.
Leading the club home with a personal best time of 24m13s was Tim James – good enough to win the 15-year-old boys category.
Two other Wheelers won their categories, both with personal best times. Adam Botteley (14) clocked 24.31 and Maddie Gammons (13) 26.52 to reach the national finals.
Despite the club’s other five racers not qualifying, all rode well with the following times: Campbell Pollock (24.28), Robbie Ward (26.03), Dan Burton (28.24) and Jess Woodworth (32.52) all set personal bests while Aaron Bateman recorded a still-impressive 30.29.
Maddie, Tim and Campbell were also aiming to qualify for the National Youth Omnium Finals with heats at Scunthorpe and Knowsley.
All three were just aiming to gain experience but Maddie’s form is so hot she finished fifth on Saturday and came close to winning Sunday’s race, guaranteeing her a place at the national final in July.
