A hectic season for Ketton Panthers Triathlon Club saw the club expand to 80 junior members, agree a partnership with Les Stables Triathlon Holidays, retain the ‘Leicestershire Racetime Schools’ trophy, achieve a top ten position in the prestigious East Midlands Series and host a surprise visit from Olympian and Commonwealth gold medallist, Vicky Holland.

Since April, the club has taken squads to nine events throughout the East Midlands and seen some brilliant individual performances during the season.

Perhaps the toughest event was the open water swim at Belvoir Castle in May, whilst the most popular proved to be the local Oakham Triathlon.

Here, 28 Panthers competed and successfully retained the ‘Leicestershire Racetime Schools’ competition under the banner of Ketton School.

The final East Midlands Race Series results showed Ketton with a top 10 finish, ahead of well established clubs such as PACTRAC, Corby, Sleaford, Stamford and closing in fast on Northants and Mansfield.

The clubs racing bike fleet clearly helped, expanding as it did from five to nine, following sponsorship from Sweet Ideas and a donation from the Burghley Family Trust.

All the children are able to benefit from the clubs ‘loan system’, which is gaining popularity. They have also been supported by Pacesetter Events / Les Stables Triathlon Holidays after marshalling local events.

The highlights of the season however, were surprise visits from GB U20 Age Group athlete Kayleigh Adams and elite triathlete, Olympian and Commonwealth Bronze and Gold medallist, Vicky Holland.

Vicky dropped in, on her way up to Leeds to train with the Brownlees, after receiving a letter from Neve Hattee, 13, and spent nearly hour hours signing autographs: bikes, cones, T-shirts, shoes and even limbs, having pictures taken and answering the many number of questions the Panthers and coaches threw at her. She is now an honorary member of the clubs and sports her own limited edition Panthers hoodie.
