Oakham 1sts added another win to their belt in Leicestershire Cricket League’s Division Three on Saturday.
Playing at home to Mountsorrel Castle, the visitors were put into bat first after Oakham won the toss. They hit a respectable 274 all out in 43 overs.
Captain Matt Osman took the bulk of the wickets (4-34) with the others falling to Rory Brown, Joe Stafford, Shyam Lakhani, Angus Boyle and Graeme North.
Oakham took to the crease and got off to a steady start thanks to operners Will Stuart Jones (39) and Jamie McCormack who hit a century to make 111.
Shyam Lakhani (27), Brown (39) and North (25no) contributed double-figure scores to reach the target of 278-6 in 40 overs to give Oakham the win by four wickets.
It leaves Oakham in seventh place in the division, a welcome position after fears earlier in the season that they could be drawn into a relegation battle.
That was sparked following Oakham’s game against Shepshed Messengers when the Rutland side accidentally fielded an ineligible player.
Shepshed lodged a complaint and the league took the 24-point win away from Oakham and deducted a further 24 points.
Oakham will face Shepshed, who are lodged firmly at the bottom of the division, away on Saturday in the final game of the season.
