Bourne’s Ian Cottam made a winning debut in the ring at Cleethorpes on Friday, winning in the third round of his bout.
Cottam, from Bourne ABC, was backed by family and friends as he took on Dave Butler in his first ever fight.
He entered the ring with a relaxed but focussed attitude and commanded the fight from the start and although their skill levels were evenly matched, Cottam’s superior fitness soon began to pay off.
Butler was given an eight count in the second round, and again in the third and soon afterwards the referee stopped the fight in favour of the Bourne boxer.
Cottam is due to fight again in Hull this Friday, and will then fight closer to home at a show organised by Stamford ABC on February 23.
He will be joined by Bourne boxers Daren Lunn, Jack Bailey and Sean Price-Regan, who are also set to fight at Stamford Boxing show.
Tickets are available for the show, which will be held at Deeping Leisure Centre, from ourne ABC and Stamford ABC.
Bourne ABC trains at Harvey’s Universal Fitness on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings. New members are welcome and the first session is free.
