Former Burghley Horse Trials rider Zara Phillips will get back in the saddle at this weekend’s Brigstock International Horse Trials at Rockingham Castle.

After an eight month break from competition and having given birth to daughter Mia, the Queen’s granddaughter will take part in the three day event of dressage, cross-country and show jumping.

Stamford-based watchmakers Robert Loomes will act as official timekeeper for this year’s Brigstock trials. Managing director Robina Hill said: “It is superb to see Zara back at top level competition and riding well.”

The company has offered one of their hand-made wristwatches as a prize for the competitor with the closest to optimum time on the cross-country course.

Robina added: “Closest to optimum time is what counts. It’s all about precision and it takes a professional pairing of horse and rider to achieve it.”

There is stiff competition at Rockingham from both home and abroad. Other top British riders this weekend include Oliver Townend and Pippa Funnel, who have both won at Badminton and Burghley before now.

Olympic silver medallist Zara competed at Burghley in 2011.
