Stamford High School U18 hockey team were crowned county champions after defeating Stamford Queen Eleanor School 2-0 and Bourne Grammar School 3-0.

The High School beat Bourne 3-0 and Queen Eleanor 2-0.

The whole team played strongly in both matches with superb stick skills from the midfield, strong teamwork from the defence and good movement from the forwards.

After being crowned county champions, the girls now progress to the regional rounds which take place on November 6 at Bedford Hockey Club.

The girls will be playing some highly skilful teams and there will be playoffs to finalise their positions at the end.

PE teacher Maria Higgins said: “The girls’ commitment is faultless on and off the pitch.

“They thoroughly deserve to go through to the next round and I have no doubt they will continue to work hard to prove themselves at the regional tournament.”
