Rutland Girls U16s came away with a well-earned victory against Leicester to make it two wins in three games in the group stage of the National Championships on Sunday.
Rutland won 2–1 to follow up their defeat to Spalding and impressive 6-1 victory against Peterborough.
Ella Brahmachari and Izzy Chedd worked the ball well in midfield and Rutland looked at their most dangerous when Charlie Gregg was bombing down the right had side with Molly King in support.
After ten minutes, an opportunist free hit from captain Brahmachari deflecting off a Leicester player’s foot and into the goal. A long corner was eventually awarded but Rutland were not denied for long with Penny Skipper slotting in after a neat turn.
Leicester levelled as half-time approached but Rutland scored as the clock ticked down in the second period Rutland scored the winner.
Gregg made another burst into the circle to win a penalty corner, and Charlotte Crombie was on hand to sweep in from close range.
With Spalding almost certain to qualify it looks a shoot-out between Rutland and Leicester for second spot if Leicester can beat both Spalding and Peterborough.
