Stamford bowlers need to overcome a team littered with internationals and county stars to progress to the fourth round over England’s premier inter-club championship, The Denny Cup, tomorrow.
Spalding IBC offer a severe obstacle to their progress in the four-rink match (two at Stamford, two at Spalding) but it should provide a great opportunity for the much-improved Stamford players to pit their skills against one of the game’s top clubs after their narrow defeat of Boston in the previous round.
Stamford Men’s A will also entertain Scunthorpe IBC on Sunday in a Lincs County Division 1 match (2pm).
Despite a spirited performance against rivals Boston, a Stamford mixed team was unable to reach the next round of the English Top Club event on Sunday, fading in the closing stages of the pairs and triples.
It was a similar story in Saturday’s County League Mixed match at Spalding where Stamford IBC was only able to claim four of the 18 points available, despite holding a slender lead one shot lead with two ends to play.
