Bourne Deeping Dragons kept in touch with the top sides in their division with a vital 5-3 victory against mid-table Pelicans.

The first half was a tight affair with Bourne Deeping defending in numbers and Pelicans having the majority of possession but it was the Dragons who scored first with a quick break and a comfortable finish for Nick Glover.

This goal however spurred on the Pelicans to continue coming forward, and eventually their pressure took its toll and the away side ended the half with a 2-1 lead.

With fitness on their side Bourne Deeping were confident that, having soaked up the Pelicans attacking play in the first half, they would be able to regain the lead in the second.

Attacking with pace and accuracy they soon drew the scores level with a neat finish from Nick Brocklehurst.

It was not long before Bourne Deeping then took the lead with a trademark tip in from Nick Glover.

The Dragons then extended their lead with Chris Clarkson confidently rounding the Pelicans’ keeper.

Pelicans pulled a goal back with an intricate finish but Alex Glover sealed the result with an improvised short corner, putting the game out of Pelicans reach.

Dragons: James Page, Phil Arnold, Andy Briault, Richard Jennings, Peter Jeffery, Chris Clarkson, Alex Glover, Andy Kind, Ben Slack, Nick Glover, Henry Winfield-Chislett, Nick Brocklehurst.

A Shane Carlton brace after Kev Baker’s opening strike gave the Dragons 2nd string a well-deserved 3-0 win against local rivals Peterborough 7th.

The seconds lead the 4NW Division after just nine matches, just one point ahead of Long Sutton 2nds.

Bourne Deeping ladies however suffered double disappointment with the 1st and 2nd team losing 1-0 to Spalding sides.

The Ladies 1st team will hope to bounce back tomorrow when they travel to play bottom side City of Peterborough Ladies 2nds.

The biggest scoreline of the day came in the men’s 5NW division where Bourne Deeping Men’s third team beat Cambridge Nomads 3rd team 10-0.

A late Richard Baker penalty corner salvaged a point for the Dragons’ 4th team against Grantham, levelling to 3-3.

The 5th team won the club’s final match of the day, 1-0 away against Ely City 4ths.

Two weeks of fixtures remain before the league’s winter break.
