Oakham-based Vale Judo Club held its annual Christmas Team Championships on Saturday.

This is the ninth year that the club has run the event and this year 49 juniors were divided into three teams with chocolate medals for the winners.

Over a four hour period, the festive teams fought for the honour of winning with Jigaro Bells triumphing over Sumo Santas and Randori Reindeers in the final placings.

Prizes for throws of the day were awarded to Arceni Munford and Emma Philip while Spirit of Judo awards were presented to Amelia Blake and Ben Gladwinfield.

The event was followed the club’s Christmas party and annual awards evening.

Vale Judo Club is the biggest judo club in the East Midlands with beginner sessions for U8s, over 8s and adults starting in the New Year.
