Cottesmore’s Jeremy Easson has returned to rallying in sensational style, taking first in class and fourth overall last weekend.

Easson, who broke his back in an accident two years ago, drove his Mk 1 Ford Escort to fourth place in the annual Roger Albert Clark rally, and winning the Full Historic category for cars built between 1968 and 1974.

Easson said: “To come back and be competitive from the start was very good. We were fourth in the opening stage.”

The 24 stage race, which began in Yorkshire on Friday evening and continued through the north of England and Scottish borders featured more than 80 cars, dating from up to the 1980s.

Training ahead of the race for Easson and his team was minimal to say the least.

“We just turned up and did it on the day,” Easson added.

“I race with navigator Alun Cooke, who has been with me from the start.

“He is one of the best and we have a back-up team of mechanics.”

Four-wheel drive cars are not allowed in the race which is entirely off-road with racers tearing through locations such as Northumberland’s Kielder Forest at up to 100mph.
