Girls are through to national finals

OUNDLE School’s netball team has qualified for the national play-offs in March after winning the regional finals recently.
County Champions at U14, U16 and first team level, Oundle fielded three sides at the tournament.
The first team beat Priory Academy 9-8 and Repton 12-6 before a 5-4 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Girls.
The girls were then boosted by a team talk from former England player, Alex Wood, and they went on to beat Loughborough High 12-4.
In the semi-finals they out-classed Wellingborough, winning 10-1 to face Billborough in the final.
Meg Turner and Alice Luxmoore-Styles worked well together with Josie Buckey, Holly Rice and Livvie Hodgkinson making sharp movements and accurate feeds into the D. Billborough were a strong side but the defensive pair of Annie Bolle-Jones and Honor de Winton resolutely defended the circle and Oundle edged the final 7-6 to become East Midlands Regional Champions.
The U16 team won their first game against Vale Academy 15-6 and they went on to beat Trent College 17-8, and West Bridgeford 16-2 with their toughest pool game being against Loughborough High School, who they beat 7-5.
As pool winners, they met Stamford in the semi-final and were beaten 16-10 by the Stamford side. The girls took third place by beating Loughborough High School 7-5.
The U14 team were also very successful beating Priory Academy 5-0, West Bridgford 5-2 and Loughborough 6-3, and drawing 5-5 with Chapel-en-le-Frith before being beaten 4-3 by eventual winners Nottingham High School in the knock-out stage.
Head of netball, Beverley Burnham said, “To have all three age groups represented is fantastic – with all winning their sections.
“Unfortunately the U16 and U14 teams lost in the semis but they did not lose face and have shown they are a force to be reckoned with.
“We have areas to work on and look forward to the national finals in Basildon in March.”
