Leaders open a gap at the top

AS the league season moves towards its concluding weeks, Yaxley BL have been picking up points to move clear at the top of Division 1 of the Stamford and Rutland League.

However, if it wasn’t for Daniel Fielding, they might have lost their unbeaten record.

He and Shaun Murray together earned the seven wins against Bourne B, but Shaun suffered a little against Stamford School and Hampton.

Leigh Ware shattered any ambitions of an unbeaten season by defeating him in three ruthless games; Daniel Fielding had to work hard for his win as the Academics endeavoured to overcome the handicap of travelling with two players due to illness.

Against Hampton, themselves challenging for the title, Dave Rowell also inflicted a defeat on Shaun, but then lost to Daniel. By winning the doubles, however, Dave and Ray Aballe secured the draw that also opens the way for MTTG A to renew their challenge.

Stamford School secured a win of their own against two-player MTTG B. Although the 9-1 scoreline seems comprehensive, many of the encounters were hard fought. Denise Jacobi and Leigh Ware were both unbeaten on the night.

Uffington CC A earned a valuable win at Nomads in Division 2.

Matt Durrands continued his exceptional season for the cricketers, while Martyn Dennis picked up two wins. Nick McDowell won twice for Nomads, who are enjoying a competitive campaign.

Tallington A continue to play hard to remain close to the leading teams.

They defeated current leaders Bourne B 6-4, with Paul Ramm winning three times for the villagers. Vitally, Richard Allen won twice before joining Paul to secure the deciding doubles’ point.
