Record number of riders are put to the test

A record number of riders made the most of near perfect conditions when they took part in Bourne Wheelers’ sixth Reliability Trial.

A total of 215 riders were split into three groups for the annual time trial with cyclists testing themselves over courses ranging from 35 to 72 miles in pre-determined times.

The riders had the option of aiming for 14, 16 or 18mph over each distance and the favourable conditions meant that a record number of more than 50 percent completed their route in the correct time.

Bourne Wheelers fielded 25 riders with Antony Gough, Bart Kieres, Tom Comben, Steve Collins, Neil Chamberlain, Cliff Hilless, John Palmer, Daniel Burton, Aaron Bateman, Adam Botteley, Sian Botteley, Derick Woodworth,Maddie Gammons, Tony Gilbert, Colin Gilbert and Jemma Empson all achieving their set target time.

Jason Burrill, Mark Botteley, Tim James, Joe Howells, Sam Gandy, Mike Parkins, Andy Preston and Nick Evans were too fast, while Keith Munton, courtesy of a 20 mile detour, was the only Wheeler who came in slower than his planned target time.

The next event on the club’s race programme is their open Hardriders time trial over a new 14 mile course on March 10.
