Teenager Diana Bevan has been selected for the England U16 rounders team.

The 15-year-old from Bulby was chosen after trials where she was up against more than 250 top players.

After a weekend of trials and assessment, a short list of candidates were invited back for a second trial and Diana, who attends Oundle School, was selected.

Diana said: “I was hopeful that I had done enough in the first trial to demonstrate that I deserved call back for the second trial, and was delighted to receive notification that I was required.”

The second and final trial was held at Corby Academy at the end of November.

With the country’s best players all vying for a coveted squad place, the competition was intense and the girls were packed off at the end of the day, leaving the selectors to ponder their choices.

Diana was in the national U14 team, which she captained in her first year at Oundle.

Head of Girls’ Games at the school, Ros Goatly, said: “It is a great achievement.

“We wish her all the best for a successful season with England rounders.”

Diana has also been selected as part of the A squad for next year’s British Pony Eventing Team 2012/13.

The nine-strong squad will train over the winter ahead of selection for the coming season.
