Stamford and Rutland League’s Christmas standings

Eastfield A top Division 1 of the Stamford and Rutland Table Tennis League at Christmas, despite fielding just two players in their match with second placed Braunston A.

Shaun Murray earned three wins for the champions, while Ollie Loia picked up two points before joining Shaun for the decisive doubles point.

Uffington A completed the first half of their league season with their third win of the campaign. Matt Durrands and Greg Baxter both enjoyed unbeaten evenings in a 7-3 scoreline, condemning opponents Bourne B to bottom place at the mid-season break.

The two unbeaten teams of Division 2 met this week, and it was the experienced Braunston B trio who triumphed, inflicting a first defeat on leaders Eastfield C.

Eastfield’s Nash Tejani will look back on the match with mixed feelings: although unbeaten himself, it was Braunston’s consistency – with Marty Stamper, Basil Bagshaw and Vic Hoffman all winning twice – that decided the match 7-3 in the host’s favour.

Bourne D endured a difficult week with matches against two of the stronger teams in the division.

Club-mates Bourne C beat them 8-2, with Harry Jackson and Mike Shattock unbeaten; then Stamford Free Church earned a 7-3 victory, with John Chambers and Rob Elliott also displaying strong form to earn full-houses.

Nomads move up to second place courtesy of a 10-0 beating of bottom team Bourne E. Andy Tod, Nick McDowall and Nick Goodman began their Christmas celebrations early with three wins apiece.
