Teams fight for president’s cup places

With Eastfield not playing this week, the spotlight was on the mid-table teams fighting for President’s Cup places.

Fourth placed Braunston A hosted fifth placed Uffington CC A and a competitive match finished 5-5.

No player was unbeaten, and, with Chuck Kershaw and Graham Cooper winning twice for the hosts, and Matt Durrands and Greg Baxter twice for the cricketers, the result was decided by the doubles.

It was Chuck and Graham who prevailed.

Uffington also travelled to Eastfield MTTG and were faced with a similar scenario.

Matt and Greg again each won twice, but were trumped by Adam Jepson’s full-house; however, they joined forces to win the doubles and secure a 6-4 win.

Eastfield MTTG did earn a win this week with a 6-4 victory over Bourne A. With three wins, Miroslav Vala was the key player for Eastfield, and he was well supported by Steve Williams who won twice.

Rod Goss won twice for Bourne, and, with Mike Willis, earned the doubles point, but it was not enough to share the points.

Braunston B head Division 2 by a single point following an emphatic 10-0 victory at Bourne D.

With the sets difference also so close, the whitewash could prove decisive at the end of the season.

Basil Bagshaw, David Smart and Vic Hoffman called on all their experience for an unblemished evening.

Bourne D recovered from this hiding with an 8-2 success over their E team clubmates. Chris Holland was unbeaten, while Stuart Wills and Kevin Greenfield both won twice.

Bourne C continue to eye the top two positions following a 9-1 win over Bourne E.

Kevin Day and Clive Jackson were unbeaten on the night, and Ziggy Poberezniuk chipped in with two points.

If Bourne C can win their game in hand, they will be just one point behind second placed Eastfield C.
