Pupils rack up super victories in regatta

ROWERS from Oundle School were medal-winners at the recent Bedford Regatta with two victories for the Oundle School 3rd Form girls rowing teams, winning both A and B J14 quad events.

Racing at the Star Regatta, a crew of Natasha Garood, 14, Holly Martin, 14, Emma Carr, 14, Mary Whittow, 14 and Hester Seymour, 13 proved too strong for their opponents winning both rounds of the A event by several lengths.

In a tougher race the crew of Alex Tonks, 14, Lottie Winnett, 14, Kristina Cowley, 14, Catherine Davies, 13, and Helena Jackson, 14, took the lead in the last third to win the B event.

The 5th form boys coxed four of Peter Dennison, 15, Henry Sutton, 16, Greg Wilkinson, 16, David Fearnley, 15, coxed by Emily Keston, 16, beat Eton College in a straight final with an impressive row from the start and winning by two lengths at the finish line.

Senior girls double of Hannah Hoskins, 18 and Charlotte Birks, 15, won in impressive style beating Star Club, Bedford in the semi, and Northampton BC in the final.

Hannah said: “It was great for the boat club to have another successful weekend: Winning again made good preparation for racing at Women's Henley, the J15 boys' crew won in their first race as a crew, and two more wins for the third year girls completed their fantastic first year of racing.”
