THURLBY shot putter Robert Mohan, competing in Loughborough University colours, took bronze at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.
Mohan was competing in the British Universities Athletics Championships which were being used as a test event for the London 2012 Olympics.
He eased through the qualifying round on Sunday with a throw of 15.43m in cold conditions, and entered the final as favourite for the bronze medal.
In the first round, Robert threw 16.07m, despite struggling with injury, to take the lead. However his distance was beaten in round two by previous winners Zane Duquemin (St Mary’s) and Rimantas Martisauskas (Leeds Met Carnegie) but Robert held on to third place with his 16.07m throw as the weather deteriorated and rain arrived.
He enjoyed the medal ceremony and his time on the Olympic podium and gained valuable experience from the weekend. His next Olympic involvement will be on June 27 when he will be carrying the Olympic torch during the Sleaford stage.
