Bourne edge a scrappy tie by a single point
Bourne won by a scrappy game by a single point when their hosts, Wellingborough OGs missed a conversion with the last kick of the game.
The 16-15 victory consolidates Bourne’s mid-table league position ahead of tomorrow’s cup tie at home to Gainsborough in a Junior Vase third round tie that doubles up as a NLD Cup fixture.
Skipper Adam Binns expects to a tough challenge from the Merit League side tomorrow.
The two sides were in the same league prior to Bourne’s promotion at the end of last season and Binns warned: “They are a strong side. We will have to play well.”
Bourne’s display at Wellingborough was patchy.
Jack Berry made a brilliant run to round off a good team try in the first half and Binns kicked three penalties and a conversion but they were also guilty of making too many mistakes.
Binns added: “We did not play anywhere near the level that we should have done. All the players acknowledge that.
“Perhaps we were over confident.”
Kick off tomorrow is at 2.15pm.
