Bourne RFC picked up their second win of the season with an impressive display against local rivals, Stamford College Old Boys.

The Milking Nook Drove club won 30-10 and rarely looked in trouble on Saturday with two tries each for skipper Adam Binns and Tom Bishop.

Binns said: “The forwards won us the ball and the backs capitalised on it.

“Our pack really stepped up and made their mark. They had one of their best games that I have seen.

“It was always going to be hard for flowing rugby because of the weather and we had to play a bit more up the middle.”

Bourne gained good early territory and opened up a six point lead with two penalties kicked by Binns. The skipper then extended the lead with Bourne’s first try.

The home side’s pack then claimed the ball from the restart and set up Bishop to score. The try was converted and Bourne led 18-0 at the interval.

The Stamford side were reduced through injuries to just 14 players in the second half but managed to pin Bourne back for a while, scoring an unconverted pushover try.

But Bourne turned over the ball in the Old Boys’ own 22 and Binns restored the 18 point advantage.

The visitors rallied again to add a second but Bishop crashed through their defence to touch down Bourne’s final try, which was converted for a 20 point winning margin.

Binns added: “Everything that we are doing in training is starting to show.”

Next up in the Midlands 4 East (South) is a trip to play Wellingborough OGs, and the Bourne captain sees this as one of the games his side must win.

He said: “There are some sides who will run away with it but this is a must-win game in our eyes. We had a hard start to the season but now we are playing the teams around us in the table. If we can win these it will make it easier nearer Christmas.”

Kick off at Welling borough tomorrow is at 2.15pm.

Bourne RFC: Jake Appleby (Matthew Cuffe), Xanti Xipu, Jason Rushden (Simon Pick), Tom Douglas, John Hulme, Dan Bishop, Ed Cooke, Anthony Cooke, Drew Castle (Alan Faversham), Jack Berry, Dale Falconer, James Erksine, Tom Bishop, Harry Hodgson-Barnes, (Ashley reeves), Adam Binns.
