Young players from Stamford Rugby Club played in front of a huge crowd at Leicester Tigers’ Welford Road ground last Saturday.
Stamford’s U1os played in the Super16 round of the Prima Tiger Cup ahead of Tigers’ Aviva Premiership victory against Bath.
The U10s, who came through a local festival to win a place in the finals at Leicester, beat Syston in their opening match before being beaten by Nottingham Paviors in the last eight.
A big Syston pack was contained by aggressive play from Dan Teesdale and Ollie Lamb but it was a darting 30m run by scrum half Charlie Agnew, dotting the ball down in the corner, that sealed the win.
Lando Thain pulled one back against Paviors but there was not enough time to draw level.
Stamford Under-10s head coach David Laventure said: “It’s fantastic for the parents and great for the kids to stand on the Welford Road pitch and be in the middle of it. It has been a superb experience.”
The players also enjoyed a half-time parade in front of a 20,000-strong Welford Road crowd and had team photos taken with Tigers and England star Tom Croft.
The U10s will have another chance to play at Welford Road as they go into the Prima Tiger Bowl next month.
