STAMFORD Rugby club’s reformed Colts team played their first game on Sunday.

After a number of years without a team at this age, Stamford has attracted some very talented young players from Stamford and the surrounding area to form a strong squad to fulfill a 12-match fixture list in 2012.

The opening game was at home with windy conditions dictating a tight match against local rivals from Deeping, with the visitors edging it 26-24.

Harry Martin skippered the team and there were outstanding performances from Dan Griffin, Angus Green and Tom Gulland.

The squad trains on a Thursday evenings from 6.30pm-7.15pm under floodlights at Empingham Road Playing Fields and new keen players are welcome to join.

Qualified coaches are focused on developing players and helping them improve. Anyone who would like to join should call Sean Forward on 07736 672639.
