BURGHLEY Park travelled to Biggleswade in high hopes of extending their lead at the top of the Hunts Division 2 standings but came home defeated.
On a wicket that had soaked up a fair amount of water over the last few weeks, the bounce kept low and batting proved to be unpredictable early on.
The Burghley pace attack struck on a regular basis and soon had Biggleswade flailing on 50-7. However some gritty batting from the lower order of the Biggleswade line-up inched the home team past the 100 mark before Burghley struck back and wrapped up their innings for 128, maximising their bowling points.
On previous form, 128 would not have proved a difficult task for the Burghley top order although reality proved different with a mixture of tight bowling, poor shot selection and a tricky batting wicket. Only a few Burghley batsmen made double figures before Biggleswade ended the troubled Burghley innings on 99.
Some much needed and welcomed points for Biggleswade will help their campaign in the second half of the season however the day proved to be one to forget for Burghley. Some much stiffer opposition, in the form of Blunham, travel to Burghley on Saturday for a top of the table clash in a decisive match for both teams.
