Six-time Rutland County Golf Club champion Ollie Freckingham is switching from the fareways of golf to the cricket crease this summer.
Scratch player Freckingham, 23, has spear-headed County’s A team for the last eight years but is set to focus on cricket after signing professional terms with Leicestershire County Cricket Club.
After a 15 years at the club as en employee and member, he leaves with the course amateur record of 65.
Now the pacy, right-arm bowler, who played for Loughborough last summer, will focus on cricket with the new season just weeks away.
Rutland County manager Steve Lowe said: “Ollie will be sorely missed by us all – you couldn’t meet a nicer lad.
“We are all very proud of him at the club and wish him all the best with his cricketing career. We’ll be watching out for him on the telly.”
