Stamford aiming to reach Shield final

STAMFORD will be aiming to book their place in the final of the Lincolnshire Senior Shield tonight.

Dougie Keast's side travel to new UniBond Division One South rivals Grantham Town hoping for a second final appearance in three seasons.

Stamford won the competition in the 2006/07 campaign when they beat Brigg Town in the final and go into tonight's contest after a decent pre-season programme.

They beat Conference North side Gainsborough Trinity last week to secure their semi-final spot against a Gingerbreads outfit who defeated Brigg 2-1 in their last four clash on Saturday.

New signings Stefan Morley and Jonny Bewers are both available for the match after putting pen-to-paper following Saturday's 4-1 home defeat against Conference National side Crawley Town.

Grantham are likely to include former Stamford striker Jason Turner and ex-Daniels goalkeeper Nick Conroy among their ranks.

Conroy has been sharing the goalkeeping duties during pre-season with Richard Stainsby who played for Blackstones Reserves last season.
