Stamford bowlers will compete in the English Nationals Championship for the third successive year at Melton Mowbray IBC today.

They compete in the last 16 of the over60s rinks with Martyn Dolby and Bob Warters, who reached the quarter-finals of the over60s pairs in 2011 and the last 16 in 2012, joined in the veterans fours by Mike Ramsden and Peter Edwards.

Having won their inter-area final against Lincoln, who last week went on to claim the national over60s double rinks title, Stamford will meet Royal Tunbridge Wells for a chance to take on either Blackpool Newton Hall or Ross Peers IBC from Soham in the quarter-finals.

l In the Lincolnshire County Mixed League Division Two, Stamford moved off the bottom spot with a 100-82 defeat of Boston, claiming 16 of the 18 points.

John Little’s rink of Dave Hudson, June Brennan and Chris Ford carried the individual spoils with a nine shot victory but it needed at least two extra ends before Paul Bailey outgunned the Reeson family in what was at times an explosive match.

Result: Stamford 100 (16pts), Boston 84 (2).

Stamford names only: M Andrews, D Mackie, T Mackie, M Bailey won 24-16; S Bailey, K Bailey, D King, P Bailey won 21-14; J Holroyd, C Warters, M Holroyd, R Warters lost 14-29; C Jones, J Harris, M Bloxham, R Harvey won 20-13; D Hudson, J Brennan, C Ford, J Little won 21-12.

In Northants Federation competitions Christine Ford has reached two finals due to be played at Stamford in March.

In the veterans singles, she beat Jenny Harvey at Peterborough 21-15 and in the pairs with Jan Want beat another Peterborough duo 21-14.

Martyn Dolby became the first player to reach the four-bowls singles semi-finals beating Bob Warters 21-6.
