RUNNERS came from far and wide to race the annual Grimsthorpe 10k organised by Bourne Town Harriers on Monday.

Club membership secretary Richard Lomas-Brown, said: “We had a lot of regulars for the 10k, which is never an easy course. I took part myself and there were about 380 people running in it.”

First Harrier home was Matthew Grace in 11th place, who finished in a time of 39:11. He was closely followed by Vaughan Roberts (39:45).

Bourne’s first woman to complete the race was Clare Steels in 41st place in a time of 42:29.

Stamford Striders fielded a 47-strong team with a top turnout from experienced runners and those who joined the club this summer through its popular beginners course.

First back for Stamford was Martin Candish in 43:45, followed by Nick Wells (44:14), and Maggie Skinner who was 6th woman (44:22).

Strider Val Eve picked up first prize in her age category (Female Vet 65) with a well-paced 59:53.
