FOUR teams of Stamford Striders took part in the English Cross Country Relays in Mansfield on Saturday, with another four runners racing the Rutland Marathon on Sunday.
Pouring rain turned the course into a quagmire in time for the Women’s Seniors race at Mansfield, where the two Stamford women’s teams faced a slippery 3k loop with uphill struggles thrown in.
The women’s A team (Suzanne Moon, Sheona Revill and Caroline Gasper) completed the course in 45 minutes to come 95th and the B team of Maria Sowerby, Alison Marvel and Celina Silver came 104th in 52 minutes.
The men’s A team (Jim Morris, Martin Candish, Nick Wells and Simon Fell) finished the seniors 5k race in 1h26m for 132nd place.
Unfortunately the B team of Nicholas Smith, Gordon Orr, Mark Popple and Mick Revill had their overall time scuppered by an impromptu mass-start for final-leg runners but the runners clocked some good individual times.
l A QUARTET of Striders did their club proud in the Rutland Water Marathon on Sunday with all four runners finishing in the top 100.
Maggie Skinner was third woman to cross the line in an incredibly well-paced 3:26:08 for 40th overall. Stephen Parker was 48th in 3:29:15, Simon Needham crossed the line just a minute later (3:30:33) to take 52nd place and Vicky Old was 99th in 3:46:11.
