LAXTON Park recorded a long overdue win on Sunday, beating Peterborough Town 2nds.
The City side put Laxton in to bat on a green surface, and opening bowlers Ben Chance (1-23) and Farhan Adil (2-60) bowled with excellent discipline for the first 14 overs, limiting Laxton’s run scoring opportunities.
After opener Hales fell for 8, Peterborough skipper Mohammed Azhar soon skittled club captain James Ireland for 30 in the first over of his lean spell.
Laxton continued to create strong partnerships despite a slow run rate with every batsman playing their part. Adam Renton fell for 30 after attempting to hit one over mid-on, while Robert Howe (28) and Angus Boyle (20) made useful contributions before falling foul of two full, straight deliveries.
As the home side sought to maximise their run tally in the last few overs, Phil Dobbs (26*), Kevin Dobbs (11) and Andy Ireland (11*) hit some very useful boundaries to make Peterborough chase a competitive looking 184-6.
Laxton took to the field with a spring in their step and Boyle (3-15) and Renton (3-21) did not disappoint as they hailed down a torrent of line and length deliveries.
Despite not getting any wickets in the first 8 overs, Laxton had Peterborough firmly under pressure at 10-0. This pressure soon bore fruit as Andy Ireland took a catch at gully to dismiss Green. Several more wickets fell in quick succession as Peterborough fell to 23-4.
Only skipper Mohammed Azhar (29) and all-rounder Nadir Haider (26) moved Peterborough’s score on to a more respectable total. But they never looked like getting close to Laxton’s scoreand finished their innings 112 all out.
