Tony heads the Harriers home

Bourne Town Harrier Tony Gilbert set the pace for Bourne Town Harriers, leading the club home at races on Saturday and Sunday.

The Harriers rounded off their debut season in the North Midlands Cross Country League with five junior runners at the final round at Cranwell on Saturday.

Ethan Ellison, Scott Taylor and Beth Howells finished in 12th, 23rd and 18th respectively in their race while Megan Ellison finished in 11th and Molly Bennett 33rd in the U13 girls race.

For Beth and Molly this was their second race of the day, as both had competed at the Lincolnshire Schools County Championships at Caythorpe in the morning.

In the vet men’s race Tony Gilbert was first Harrier home from Tim Wigley, Mark Ellison, Phil Galpin, Mick Howells.

Then on Sunday, the Bourne Town Harriers travelled to March for the latest round of the Frostbite League fixture.

Eight juniors competed and were led home by Cameron Everist in 18th and Megan Ellison in 24th. Other runners were Toby Everist, Beth Howells, Molly Bennett, Alfie Bennett, Leah Clark and Alex Stubley.

More than 400 runners lined up for the start of the seniors race and for the second time in two days Tony Gilbert led the seniors, home followed by Shaun Hill and Mick Howells.

Victoria Cocking was the first lady home for the Harriers in 159th followed by Karen Clark and Penny Lamb. Other senior team runners were Brian McLean, Richard Houghton, Richard Pearson, Roland Stevens, Tony Yoxall, Dave Grace, Malcolm Scriven, and Melissa Woodcock in her debut race.

The next round is on Sunday, February 3, and will be hosted by Bourne Town Harriers.

In the Harriers series’, Cameron now tops the boys’ standings, ahead of Martin Clarke, while Megan leads the girls from Beth. In the seniors’ standings Tony leads the way with Shaun second while Vicky leads the ladies ahead of Karen.
