Triple signing boosts Daniels

Gary King has returned from Worksop to Stamford

Gary King has returned from Worksop to Stamford

TWO new faces and the return of an old favourite have bolstered Tommy Brookbanks’ squad before Stamford take on Kidsgrove Athletic tomorrow.

The Daniels boss has signed up two strikers and an attacking midfielder in the trio of Chris Cox, Scott Mooney and Gary King, who left the Daniels earlier this season to join Worksop Town.

After the cancellation of Stamford’s scheduled games against Carlton Town and Sheffield this week due to frozen pitches, Brookbanks took his side to train on Carlton’s artificial pitch midweek.

And the Stamford boss hopes the new arrivals will be the key to a fine run-in as the Daniels enter the crucial stage of the season.

Brookbanks said: “I hoped to bring Chris to Carlton five or six years ago when I was there. We have very high hopes for him.

“He was at Barnsley when he was younger and then had an offer to play in the USA. He arrived back this summer and it has taken us until now to get his paperwork sorted.”

Centre forward Mooney has arrived from fellow Evo-Stik First Division side Loughborough Dynamo but has also played at Hyde, Corby and with the England C non-league side.

Brookbanks added: “He has a good pedigree and just needs a bit of mentoring. We feel we can get the best out of him.

“There will be midweek games most weeks now and we will have to rotate players. But I am happy with the squad at the moment. I think it would be hard to better it.”

Nick Ghislanzoni who would not have played last weekend due to injury is expected to be available for selection tomorrow’s trip to Kidsgrove while the odds of defender Miles Chamberlain being match fit are just 50:50.

After a fine 2010-11 season, tomorrow’s opponents Kidsgrove have not fared as well this campaign.

They sit just below mid-table but Brookbanks warned: “They had a good FA Trophy run and their position in the league is a false one.”
